Allen klosowski biography

To do this I will experiment with iphoneography, using various photo editing apps including Distressed FX to edit and manipulate my images. The images below were edited using the photo editing app called 'DistressedFX' which enabled me to edit and manipulate my photos by selecting from a variety of different filters. The filters provided include that of textures and overlays to manipulate my colour choices in my work.

When researching Klosowski, I noticed that his use of colour is an integral part of his photography that coincides with his unusual perspectives and camera angles of buildings to reveal and compare the ages of different buildings and structures. His photographs of older buildings are often emphasised through the use of more earthy tones including brown and sepia to indicate age and time.

However, newer buildings provide a cooler mood in his work through the use of blues and greens which symbolise the glass from the structures. When editing my own photographs in DistressedFX I ensured to consider this in my own work, applying different filters to each individual building. The app also features circular and linear blur effects including Tilt Shifts and I spent time considering how I could also apply these effects in my own work, creating strong parallels to my previous work on Susan Burnstine and Rachel Howard and how they work with the idea of motion to create fluidity and a sense of business in their photography.

Overall, I am pleased with my different outcomes due to the various colours I was able to experiment with and apply to my pieces. The colours start from the left and wash out as you get to the right. This picture contrasts the typical leading lines picture, as the lines generally lead you throughout the picture unlike this photograph.

The warm tone colours appear to be subtle against the cool tone blues and grey, making the blue building a dominant feature. Lighting within the picture seems to be natural, if there were to be artificial lighting there it would be captured in the reflection of the glass, however the lighting may have been enhanced whilst editing. There is a possibility that the photo might have been taken from a wide-angle as there seems to be a long depth of field.

In attempt to capture the rain droplets the shutter speed would have been shortened. From this photo I feel that Jacrot is trying to communicate the mesmerizing beauty of city life. The use of minimized colour creates the mood within the photograph and can changes the perspective of which the viewer portrays the photograph. I hope to achieve this within my photo shoot on compositions.

JPG successful as the subject was in the correct frame of the photo. The lighting highlights the high features of the photo enhancing the leading lines. If I were to edit this image I would crop the image so only the church was central focus by minimising the road. JPG was successful as I have capture a photo in style of Allen Klosowski whom is one of the photographers that inspired me for this shoot, likewise in his pictures he chooses to capture the image from low angle to make the lines within the buildings more prominent.

JPG was successful as the lines was are crisp and clean, also as I could capture the reflection of the sky and tree in which are in the background in the glass, which gave the image a larger depth of field. JPG I changed the camera setting to so that the ISO and F number so that the lighting would be clearer and give more depth to the picture.

JPG was unsuccessful as the image was not in focus and as there was no clear leading line within the photo. JPG I positioned the camera on the road so that the pathway would act as leading lines, as we look within the image the lines seem smaller and gives the picture depth. When researching about composition and leading lines in photography, there were many photographers whom inspired me; such as Allen Klosowski, Christophe Jacrot and Jim Zuckerman.

Klosowski was my main inspiration for this shoot. So, when capturing these images, I incorporated the different elements from their photos into my own work. As seen in my first final edit, I have chosen to angle certain images at more extreme angles, as inspired from Klosowski. Also, whilst editing my photographs I took into consideration the composition.

Therefore, I cropped certain features from the images, by doing so the leading lines becomes the focal points of the image. On Photoshop I used the blur tool to add dimension to the photo as this would make the leading lines prominent. Within the first image I increased the ISO levels so that the picture would appear to be grainy as Klosowski does within his work.

By changing the camera settings, it taught me how to manipulate the photo and how to add texture onto the images; this was something that I enjoyed and hope to expand my knowledge upon in the duration of the course. Overall, I am partially happy with the work I have produced; I feel like I can experiment further with these photos to improve, for example add layers above the image of coloured water droplets above the black and white image of the building, the water would act as the leading lines; inspired by Jacrot.

I could also take images at more exciting locations with more direct leading lines.
